Five Tips for Working With An LED Strip Light

Posted on: 15 September 2022

LED strips are a great way to add light to your work, and they're also an easy-to-use, cost-effective way to revamp your studio. But before you begin working with LED strips, make sure you've got the right tools, supplies, and safety gear in place.

Here are five tips for working with LED strips.

1. Make Sure You Have The Right Tools For Your LED Strip Light

To avoid damaging the strip while you're working with it, make sure you have a good set of wire cutters and some tweezers. If you don't have those things, you can just cut the strip in half before adding it to your work or use tape to hold it down while you work on it.

2. Make Sure You Have An Adequate Power Supply For Your LED Strip Light

If you're using a power supply that isn't rated for LED strip lights, it could cause damage to the strips or even start a fire. Make sure you have a power supply that's rated for LED strip lights before plugging it into your studio.

3. Connect Your LED Strip Light Wires Correctly

Connect the wires from each bulb together with other coloured wires on their own separate leads before plugging them into the power source so that you can easily tell which one is connected to what and where they need to go later on in the project. If you use heat shrink tubing around these connections as well, they'll be even easier to spot.

4. Know The Basics About LED Strip Light Distribution

When using multiple colours on one strip, make sure they're all wired in parallel—this means that all three red wires should be connected together, all three green wires should be connected together, etcetera. You can also wire them in series if you want to light up each colour separately (for example if you want blue and yellow but not red).

5. Consider Color Temperature With Your LED Strip Light Distribution

One thing that can help make an area look more professional is if it has a consistent colour temperature throughout – so make sure all your lights are the same colour! If they aren't all the same colour temperature then it will look like separate sections have been put together rather than one cohesive area. This will also ensure that everything looks consistent and professional no matter what time of day it is.
